Design Memo

Task management is a skill to be developed with time. Many students don’t understand this to be a skill and rather, blame themselves for their inability to manage the numerous demands of coursework. Components used in the site design aim to encourage students with an openness to learn, and an acceptance to the self if a system of organization is not established for them just yet. Careful thought was given to the text, images, and structure to reflect this purpose.

To reflect purpose in our text, we crafted statements in simple words and sentences to describe each task. We also chose to use a sans-serif font that was easy for users to read.

Blue and yellow were chosen to be our main brand colors for the site. When separate, blue and yellow typically reflect a feeling of calm and happiness respectfully. The two colors combined complement each other in creating a calm, welcoming, and optimistic environment for our site.

Purpose is reflected in the structure of site content through a chronological separation of all statements. Each passage is at most 3-4 sentences, sometimes including supplementary images. Headers are provided for each passage to provide further guidance, and the menu is placed at the top and center of the page to provide ease in navigation. Consistency across page design is also provided so users always know what to expect when navigating.

These three elements altogether aim to create a welcoming environment for students to learn and develop their skills for task management. The hope is that students will feel calm and collected while navigating this task that can potentially seem intimidating if a student has never approached this type of organization before.
